Outlook is more than just the name of a Microsoft email server. It is a perspective, the looking ahead, of what should, could, or needs to be. For me, the Outlook of the NYSCC is good, with your help.

Logistics 2023: This year’s convention was held at the Delta Lake Bible Conference Center, located on the western Shores of Delta Lake in Oneida County.

It was held on August 11th and 12th Choice of lodging was bunkhouse style designed for youth (summer camp) or cottages for an additional fee.

Food was served cafeteria style. The conference area offered internet access.

Comments: The Food was excellent was the major comment. One person was concerned about the quantity of food. While there were leftovers, it was judged rather close.

Lodging was definitely basic, but clean and affordable. ($175 for 2 nights and 5 meals. There was only one negative comment I heard that was critical about the bunkhouse amenities.

The location was centrally located to the point that almost half commuted from home to attend the Convention.

The dates selected, August 11th and 12th, were a poor choice, on my part, as it conflicted with some County Fairs and definitely affected, our attendance.

It was voted to have next year’s Fall Convention at the same location, but to have it in September (13th and 14th has been reserved).

Presenters: Below are the presenters at the Fall Convention. Meeting Minutes and presentations are posted at the 2023 Fall Convention button on the homepage of our website.

From DEC:

  • Fish and wildlife; Jim Farquhar, Steve Hurst, Jeremy Hurst.

  • DEC Encon we had Jim Boylan, Assistant Director of Law Enforcement at Environmental Conservation Police.

  • DEC universal Access, Leah Akins

  • DEC Office of Indian Native Affairs, Peter Rubin

Other Presenters:

  • Paloma A. Capanna, Attorney & Policy Analyst for 2AM Patriot

  • Sturgeon for Tomorrow update presentation by Tom Brooking

  • NYS Conservation Fund Advisor Board: presenters were NYSCC’s Anthony Kordziel and Scott Faulkner.

One item that is still worth noting is that those within DEC cannot take a stand on bills and legislation, so it is up to the Sporting Community.

The DEC Fish and Wildlife Department presented what is in the works in their departments. Also, Paloma Capanna came back this year to discuss the new laws going into effect on FFL’s and the lawsuit pending on them.

New to present this year was Leah Akins, Peter Rubin, Jim Boylan and Tom Brookings. All the presentations were very informative and well received by those that attended the meeting. There was also a report regarding CFAB which is included in the minutes on our website.

Chuck is looking for an opinion on representing Associate members by a seat on the NYSCC Board of Directors.

Requires a bylaw change. Dan Owen suggests that if we are going to look, and possibly change, the bylaws, the review should be of all the bylaws.

Mike Elam Great Lakes Restoration is looking for input from sportsmen.

Casey working on a new brochure. Would like feedback please email her at [email protected].

It was agreed to come back to Delta Lake Conference Center next year and are reviewing options for the Spring Meeting now, should have it set soon so keep an eye out for email updates.
