In the past 10 years, team roping as a whole has seen big payoffs, but it typically costs a couple of thousand dollars, or more, per entry. The NTR accomplishes big payoffs with fees of only a couple of hundred dollars per entry.

Introducing The National 12
After seeing the payouts of the National Nine and National Eight the past two years, I’ve had a lot of requests from the higher-number ropers for the NTR to include a division for them also to compete for $100,000.

“My stepmom has a place in Queen Creek, and I have a step sister who has a place down there with her four kids,” Schieck explained. “I can go down and take my horses and rope once a year. Now with Ty’s finals being so good, that’s my one week a year I go to Arizona.

Taming The West
“It’s like golf,” Woolsey said of team roping. “One day you think you’re a hero and the next day you’re not. I love it because it’s competitive. We went to Oklahoma one year and I was third high team back for a lot of money and I missed that steer. Then I was hooked.

Family Affair: From ranching to roping the Ballek family is united as one.
It was a huge summer in the National Team Roping Tour for the Ballek family of Clearmont, Wyo. Dan and Julie and their two kids, Misty and Cody, are regular competitors at many NTR events, both in the North, during the summer, and occasionally in Arizona during the winter months.
