World Affairs Council of Central Illinois welcomes as part of their speaker series, Dalia Mogahed, executive director and senior analyst for the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies and co-author of the book, Who Speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think. Mogahed speaks Monday evening at the University of Illinois at Springfield about the culmination of a multi-year polling effort in 35 countries representing the opinions of more than 1 billion Muslims worldwide, including Muslims in the West. She now travels the globe engaging diverse groups on what Muslims really think about the West, about democracy, about extremism itself and more. In a post-9/11 world, many Americans conflate the mainstream Muslim majority with the beliefs and actions of an extremist minority. Who Speaks for Islam? spotlights this silenced majority.
