In his “Now Playing” column this week (p. 40), our resident musician/philosopher Tom Irwin offers a theological reflection on the best way to express gratitude for a live music performance. The best thing we can do, he writes, is show up. Same can be said for all the many offerings described in this winter guide and holiday calendar.
A lot of people are going to a lot of effort to entertain us, feed us, make us happy and put us into the proper spirit of the season. We need to do more than enjoy reading about all this by the warm fire in the living room. The proper response is to get out of the house and show up.—Fletcher Farrar, editor Commentary
