Downtown Springfield, Inc. will host the final Winter Farmers Market on April 25. Farmers markets are considered essential businesses that should remain open during the pandemic because they are a critical link between local farms and consumers. However, with new social distancing rules in place, shoppers will see some changes to what is expected of them and the vendors. As with grocery stores, the market expects only one shopper per household and shoppers must maintain a distance of at least six feet between themselves and other shoppers. They must follow the marked circular path that will lead them to each of the vendors and only vendors will be allowed to touch and bag the products. Shoppers should only point to their selections. All of the rules will be posted on site for both shoppers and vendors. The summer season of the Old Capitol Farmers Market is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 13.
