Operatic soprano Christine Brewer and banjo virtuoso Noam Pikelny will perform as part of Illinois Humanities’ “The Country and the City” series that brings together rural and urban Illinoisans around shared concerns. Grammy award-winning Brewer has been named by BBC Music as one of the top 20 operatic sopranos of all time and is originally from rural Grand Tower. Pianist Hugh Russell will join her. Three-time Grammy nominee and winner of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, Pikelny is a founding member of the Punch Brothers quintet and is originally from suburban Skokie. After their performance, Brewer and Pikelny will discuss their careers and how they became renowned for art forms not commonly associated with the communities in which they were raised. ilhumanities.org.
