An American musical and classic tale, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway. Arriving in New York City from her hometown of Allentown, Pennsylvania, armed with her tap shoes and big dreams, she soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. It seems that the show will have to close unless a new girl talented enough to lead the show can be found to replace her, someone like Peggy. Peggy’s rise from showgirl to star is the stuff of show business dreams. 42nd Street is full of crowd-pleasing tap dances, popular musical theater standards and show-stopping ensemble production numbers. The ultimate show-biz musical, 42nd Street celebrates Broadway, Times Square and the people who make the magic of musical theater. Co-directed by Morgan Kaplan and Andrew Maynerich and presented by the Springfield Theatre Centre. hcfta.org.
