This Boston-based musician is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, mother, band leader and recording artist, releasing albums on a regular basis and playing the cool clubs in the Americana-circuit with verve and gusto. Some categorize Sarah in all directions, from cow punk to roots rock, and she’s worked with dandy dudes like Dave Alvin, Steve Berlin and Big Sandy. But as critics and others struggle to label Ms. Borges, she simply states, “Lately, I just call it ‘rock ’n’ roll.’ Can we just call it that, for crying out loud?” and it would behoove us to comply with her request. Her latest record, Love’s Middle Name, came out last October (Blue Corn Music) with production credits going to producer-guitarist, Eric “Roscoe” Ambel (Bottle Rockets, Steve Earle). The expressive record rocks like most of his work and fits Sarah’s style like a well-worn, goatskin glove. Along with her tight and telling band, the Broken Singles, she’s all over the Midwest this month before scooting back to New England in a few weeks to continue the adventure. See also
