This Maryland native has done well in Nashville as a songwriter’s songwriter and burns up the road playing all over the U.S., especially in the Midwest. You may not know his name, but you likely know his song, “Must Be the Whiskey,” recently recorded by Cody Jinks on his Lifers album. A few years back, Josh cut his country songwriting, honky-tonking teeth with a real deal guy, by playing a double bill tour with Billy Don Burns, a great old-school songwriter and performer from the original Outlaw country movement. To give you a good idea of Mr. Morningstar’s travel itinerary, this week he does gigs in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri, then returns to Oklahoma for a Friday concert in Tulsa before heading home after the intimate listening room performance in Riverton. He then takes a couple weeks off from the road to keep up his steady songwriting work schedule in Nashville before blasting off again in March for several more dates.
