Don’t miss the performance that kicks off the Illinois Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-2019 season on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Sangamon Auditorium. The ISO’s Bicentennial Celebration concert features pieces that celebrate the Illinois Bicentennial, such as Joan Tower’s first “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman,” an adventurous piece that pays tribute to female risk-takers; Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” a composition that reflects upon some of Abraham Lincoln’s greatest speeches; and the powerful “Ode to Joy” of “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.” Concert comments will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the main auditorium. Tickets are available online at http://sangamonauditorium.org or by calling the Sangamon Auditorium box office at 206-6160. Tickets cost $21, $42 or $63 for adults and $6 for students.
