On Thursday, Sept. 27, attend the opening reception for “Let the fancy,” the new exhibition at the UIS Visual Arts Gallery that is inspired by the John Keats poem of the same name. The exhibition features mixed-media artworks by regional and national artists that assert the richness of “fancy” materials and designs juxtaposed in a testy and comical relationship with everyday objects. Featured objects by Matt Morris, Rose Nestler, Sherwin Ovid, Preetika Rajgahiah and Elise Warfield include bejeweled Budweiser cans, a custom fragrance that will be worn by UIS Visual Arts Gallery staff, fabric formalwear abstractions, a silky pink sari adorned with silky hair, fragmented crystals and more. “Let the fancy” is on display now through Oct. 18. The UIS Visual Arts Gallery is in the Health and Science Building and is open for visitors Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information about the UIS Visual Arts Gallery is available online at http://uis.edu/visualarts/gallery or by phone at 206-6506.
