The Muni kicks off their fourth and final show of the 2018 season with Annie, directed by Carly Shank. The Tony Award-winning musical originally opened on Broadway in 1977 and is based off the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip written by Harold Gray. Annie is the story of a spunky 11-year-old girl living in a New York City orphanage in 1933, who dreams of finding the parents that abandoned her as a young child. After an escape attempt that ultimately proves unsuccessful, fate intervenes in the form of billionaire Oliver Warbucks’ personal secretary, Grace, who comes to the orphanage to select and bring an orphan home to the Warbucks mansion for Christmas. Slowly but surely, Annie and Mr. Warbucks take a liking to one another, and the billionaire and his staff vow to help Annie find the loving family that she deserves.
