On Sunday, June 24, tour four community gardens and the rooftop garden at Maldaner’s Restaurant during the Roots to Rooftop Tour, sponsored by Slow Food Springfield, University of Illinois Extension, Maldaner’s, the Springfield Civic Garden Club, Grow Springfield and the Illinois Stewardship Alliance. The tour runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with each garden open for three hours. Featured gardens are: the UIS Campus Community Garden at 5255 Shepherd Road, open from 9 a.m. through noon, with presentations at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.; Southeast High School’s Spartan Garden at 2350 East Ash St., open from 9 a.m. through noon, with presentations at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.; the Garden at the Club, 300 S. 15th St., open from 11 a.m. through 2:30 p.m., with presentations at 11 a.m. and noon; the Butler Elementary School Community Garden at 1700 S. MacArthur Blvd., open 11 a.m. through 2:30 p.m., with presentations at noon and 1 p.m.; and the Maldaner’s Rooftop Garden at 222 S.
