What’s a chickadee have to do with a sermon? Well, one way to find out is to check out the acoustic folk act named The Chickadee Sermon, appearing downtown at Tacology 101 on Friday. The restaurant doesn’t do much live music, but they have tasty tacos and cool craft beer, plus a nice space to host musicians and an audience. Based out of Champaign-Urbana, the group of Jennifer Hood, Olivia Tasch, Mike Tasch and Charlie Harris blends the delicate touch of acoustic-stringed instruments with soft and subtle vocal harmonies. They do this to original songs and covers by folks like Jerry Garcia, John Hartford and Emmylou Harris, all with a sensible sensibility that gives a listener the feel-good feeling of small town hope and country-life idealism. Currently they are playing steady gigs in Champaign and surrounding areas, working on recording a batch of songs, and preparing for a summertime release of a debut album. For more information (don’t forget to “like” them), go to the combo’s friendly Facebook page.
