On Dec. 12, members of the Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club and the Springfi eld Branch of the NAACP delivered a large holiday card to Springfi eld Mayor Jim Langfelder drawing attention to Springfi eld’s many environmental issues and asking the mayor to hold the next promised public process meeting. “Springfi eld residents have responded to the need for public accountability and transparency at CWLP,” said Scott Gauvin, chairman of the Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club. “We are looking to the mayor to keep his promises and hold the meetings as agreed upon.” Teresa Haley, state and local president of the NAACP said, “We are concerned about all people, especially less affl uent and/or communities of color, that often live closest to pollution and chemical exposures and suffer the most from it, leading to high rates of asthma and other health impacts.” This is the third year the Sangamon Valley Group of the Sierra Club has delivered a large holiday card to Langfelder.
