This Saturday, Sept. 9, the
Council of Lake Springfield Clubs celebrates its 60 th anniversary with
food, drinks and music from noon to 6 p.m. at the Aqua Sports Club. The
public is invited and admission is free.
“We’ll
have a welcome and proclamation by Mayor Jim Langfelder for the 60 th
anniversary at the beginning,” says Loretta Michaud, 30- year member of
Lake Springfield clubs and past president of the council, “then there
will be corn dogs, hamburgers, pork chops, chips and beverages for sale,
and the band Off the Wall will play from 1 to 4 p.m.”
In
addition to the food and music, says Council President Adam Pallai, the
party will feature a silent auction, bocce ball tournament, raffle, can
coolies for sale and a display of Lake Springfield clubs’ history.
“There will be old lake pictures from various people and CWLP, along
with the history booklet (from the Council’s 50 th anniversary).”
There
are currently 13 Lake Springfield member clubs. The council serves as
the liaison between the clubs, city, county and Lake Springfield
homeowners. “It provides unity of purpose as the liaison
between member clubs on matters of mutual interest,” says Michaud.
“Membership is made up of representatives from each group and associate
members from City Water, Light & Power, the Lake Police, and the
Springfield Underwater Search and Rescue Team. We meet once every month
except November to discuss lake issues and activities, we put together a
Lake Springfield schedule of events that runs May through mid- October
so weekend events don’t overlap, and we plan the winter Chili Cook-Off
for charity.”
This
Saturday, the public can come out to the Aqua Sports Club by boat, car
or motorcycle, Michaud adds, to enjoy the view, have some fun and food,
and possibly win some money. “We’re planning food for 500 people,” says
Pallai. And, Michaud adds, they are “hoping to sell enough raffle
tickets to give the winner $3,000.”
