Experience the golden age of aviation by flying on the Ford Tri-Motor, the plane that revolutionized luxury commercial airline travel. The Ford 4-AT-E aircraft, nicknamed the “Tin Goose,” is available for rides Thursday from 2-5 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. After its first flight on Aug. 21, 1929, the Ford 4-AT-E aircraft served a variety of international airlines throughout the 1930s and 40s. Starting in 1949, the plane was repurposed multiple times for barnstorming, crop dusting, aerial firefighting and smoke jumping. During a fly-in at an air show in Wisconsin in 1973, the 4-AT-E was damaged in a thunderstorm and forced to undergo an extensive 12-year renovation. Today, the 4-AT-E, maintained and operated by the Experimental Aircraft Association, is used primarily for touring and delighting passengers. Flights cost $70 in advance, $75 for walk-ups, and $50 for children age 17 and under. There is no charge to view the aircraft, and all attendees are encouraged to bring a camera. Each flight runs for approximately 30 minutes, with 15 of those minutes in the air. The 4-AT-E aircraft is accessible to most elderly or mobility-limited passengers.
