During the 19 th century, cemeteries served as gathering places for the community, often hosting speeches, walks and picnics. On Saturday, May 27, Oak Ridge Cemetery will restore that 19 th century tradition during the annual A Spirited Stroll event. From 1-4 p.m., enjoy live music provided by the Muni Band and Wildwood Strings Quartet; an ice cream social featuring ice cream, shortcake, strawberries and lemonade; a historic tree tour; war memorial interpreters; and a presentation by keynote speaker Maj. Gen. Michal Zerbonia. The Spirited Stroll is free to attend, and refreshments can be purchased for $1 per ticket. This event is hosted by the Lincoln Monument Association, an organization created to promote awareness of the history and heritage behind Lincoln’s Tomb as well as to support the Tomb with educational programs, preservation efforts, volunteer programs, special events and more.
