Blazing a trail from Toronto across the world in the jazz-fusion-blues crossroads of music, Galen Weston is the guy who gets quotes like “a guitar tour de force, the kind they just don’t make anymore” and “Weston is an impressive guitarist.” With his all-star recording and live performing band comprised of David Woodhead on bass, Al Cross on drums, keyboardist Matt Horner and Richard Underhill on alto sax, with appearances by Rick Lazar on percussion, Galen is on the third day of a 2017 March tour through the Midwest. Weston caught the attention of listeners big time during a opening slot tour for the Gipsy Kings in 2016 and other high-profile gigs, like backing sax great David Sanborn and playing shows at renowned jazz clubs. He comes to Springfield by way of former townie Greg Pasenko through connections with David Lumsden. Pasenko, after a long and storied career in jazz, rock and blues on a national level, continues playing music while running his Chicago-based BluJazz Label, of which Weston is now a member.
