On Friday, Feb. 10, the DEMO Project hosts an opening reception for contemporary artists Emily Ward Bivens and Frances Lightbound, the brains behind the two newest exhibitions housed inside the little white house turned art gallery on Fourth Street. The front gallery features “Contextual Discrepancy” by Emily Ward Bivens, an accomplished artist and professor of Time-Based Art at University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Bivens’ exhibition showcases found domestic objects that have been manipulated to hold new narratives via recorded video, live-feed video and delayed images and sounds. The back gallery showcases “Marking Place” by Frances Lightbound, a British artist who splits his time between Chicago and Glasgow. Lightbound’s exhibition examines the ways in which sign systems influence and regulate the way we utilize urban spaces and structures. Additionally, both exhibitions will be available for viewing through Saturday, March 3, by appointment only or during open gallery hours on Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. For more information about the DEMO Project, visit http://demoprojectspace.com.
