With a new album out (Dr. Feelgood’s Traveling Medicine Show released on Feb. 3) featuring production work by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth and new member Arthur Lee Land (guitar, banjo, vocals), the core unit of Chad Staehly (keyboards, vocals), Jim Lewin (guitar, vocals), Brian Adams (bass, vocals) and Will Trask (drums) continues the Great American Taxi mission of keeping rock ‘n’ roll alive and well. Based out of the Colorado jam-band scene (Vince Herman is no longer in the band), GAT “captures a slice of early 70s Clapton/Cale,” according to Chris K. at Colorado Playlist. Old pal Todd Snider calls it “medicinal Americana,” and it’s in the vein of what the late, great Gram Parsons called “Cosmic American Music.” But you can call it anything you want as long as it’s good, because it is. Make sure you see GAT live; the jams rise to epic proportions as the songs become vehicles for the immense talent of these long-lasting, good and tasteful, worn-well musicians making passionately played music night after night, year after year.
