A group identifying itself as “Springfi eld Call To Action” (SC2A) is organizing a rally for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Old State Capitol plaza. The event is timed to coincide with the Women’s March on Washington and similar demonstrations happening throughout the country in the wake of the presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump. There were 370 “sister marches” planned around the country as of press time. Trump’s agenda is perceived by many as a threat to women’s rights specifi cally but the SC2A rally is designed to be more inclusive than others around the nation, with literature describing the event as addressing “racial, religious, social, gender, sexual orientation, environmental and economic justice” rather than strictly focusing on women’s issues. Although the event is inspired by worries about the incoming administration, the focus is intended to be on unity and hope rather than anxiety and frustration, offering what a press announcement called “an alternative, positive vision for our community and our country” with an accent on local and state issues along with national ones.
