With the awful tone of this election season at both the national and state levels, Election Day (Nov. 8) can’t come soon enough. But time may feel like it’s slipping away if you’ve been too busy to register to vote or change your registration. While the normal registration period is over, Illinois has “grace period” registration which allows extended registration time for anyone who’s eligible to vote. As with regular registration, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years old by Election Day, and a resident of your precinct for 30 days prior to Election Day. You can either take two forms of ID to room 105 of the Sangamon County Election Offi ce at 200 S. Ninth Street or to your polling place on Election Day. If you register during the grace period, you must vote as soon as you register. Get more info by calling the Sangamon County Clerk’s election offi ce at 753-8683, emailing elections@co.sangamon.il.us or online at sangamoncountyclerk.com/elections/register.
