Theater & Comedy | A dark musical comedy The Springfield Municipal Opera, commonly known as The Muni, is one of the largest community theater groups in the Midwest. The Muni’s amphitheater, originally built in 1950 atop a 55-acre wheat field nestled near the shore of Lake Springfield, has hosted four performances each season for more than 60 years. The Muni’s talented and dedicated volunteers work year round to ensure that each season runs without a hitch. This weekend, join The Muni for their second show in 2016, Sweeney Todd. Sweeney Todd is the tale of a barber who is returning to his home of London after a 15-year exile with a desire to seek justice on the judge that ripped his family apart. However, the revenge doesn’t go as planned, and the barber and his accomplice find themselves headed down a dangerous, deadly path. Directed by Carly Shank and produced by Steve Rotello, Sweeney Todd is “lush, operatic and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror.” For more information about Sweeney Todd and other Muni performances, visit http://themuni.org.
