Attorneys for former employees of Jeffrey “I’m Broke” Parsons, who made and lost a fortune buying and selling precious metals and other valuables, may not read IT, but judges apparently do. Parsons owes more than $12 million to ex-employees who say they were cheated out of wages, but he has pled poverty and so has been required to make payments of just $500 per month. A hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Richard Mills was set for this week to determine whether the payment plan should remain in place, but a lawyer for the employees on Monday called the judge and said that Parsons has been making payments and there was no information to indicate that his monthly payments should be increased. Not so fast, responded the judge, who noted that Illinois Times last week reported that Parsons had recently gotten married, given his bride a massive ring and was reportedly headed to Hawaii for a honeymoon “A brief continuance is warranted to allow the parties to inquire into this matter,” the judge wrote in a court order setting an Aug. 2 hearing date.
