ART | New gallery, new show

Join local artists David Brodsky, Jed Leber and Corrin Smithson McWhirter for the opening reception for “Translations,” the first exhibition to be displayed at the newly established SAA Collective Gallery in the Hoogland Center for the Arts. The SAA Collective Gallery, formerly known as the Prairie Art Alliance Gallery at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, reflects a new face for the Prairie Art Alliance, that merged with the Springfield Art Association earlier this year in order to pool resources and expand arts programming in Springfield. During this exhibition, each artist will show work within their chosen medium to “translate an internal narrative into a conversation with the viewer.” Photographer David Brodsky captures soul-searching moments which shed light on truth, emotion and humanity. Jed Leber creates sculptures out of found objects and Corrin Smithson McWhirter will show detailed line drawings, inspired by her early years of motherhood, that bring attention to basic elements of everyday spaces. The presenting artists will give an Art Talk at 5:45 p.m. in the Club Room on the Third floor of the Hoogland.
