For years, the MacArthur Boulevard Association has called for better infrastructure along one of Springfi eld’s primary business corridors. From the crumbling sidewalks (or lack thereof) to the lack of landscaping, MacArthur needs a makeover, the group says. That persistence may pay off soon, as the Illinois Department of Transportation and the City of Springfi eld prepare plans to upgrade the busy boulevard. IDOT and the city are holding an open house April 21 to get public input on issues like drainage, traffi c signals, green space and pedestrian, bike and bus accommodations. Currently, the project is in the “feasibility study” phase, which means examining various ideas and what they would cost. The meeting will feature maps, aerial photos of the strip, and exhibits depicting ideas that IDOT has already developed. There will also be an opportunity for public comment. The open house is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on April 21 at South Side Christian Church, 2600 S. MacArthur Boulevard. For more information, call 342-8202. See also
