LAVISH CAMPAIGN SPENDING I don’t know how many people thoroughly read Bruce Rushton’s excellent, exhaustively detailed, informative and somewhat surprising piece on how our state legislators lavishly spend (and disclose the spending) of their campaign funds (“Lifestyles of the rich and elected,” March 17).

I for one, found it to be not only essential, but also one of the best pieces I’ve read in Illinois Times in at least a decade. Everyone, please read it first, then ask yourself if you even care. We all should. AJ Woodson Springfield

VOTERS’ FAULT We get what we elect; there is no question why Illinois is in fiscal trouble with leadership who are not moral, fiscal conservatives. (“Lifestyles of the rich and elected,” March 17, Bruce Rushton). They are on “the dole” and are no different than the list of governors who are serving time; the difference is that those governors were caught and prosecuted.

We the voters are culpable, and we need a revival for candidates of moral character and need prosecutors who will indict such despicable behavior. Until both occur, Illinois will continue to suffer the consequences of lawless leadership. Ron Jaeger Springfield

RICH AND ELECTED I guess only one Republican (Sam McCann) does this? (“Lifestyles of the rich and elected,” March 17, Bruce Rushton). It’s reprehensible that any politician would flout the law like this. But unless you show both sides, you’re just running a hatchet piece on the Democratic Party. Sherry Smith-Viele Springfield

OFF THE RACK I keep tellin’ myself I’m gonna read these ridiculous columns and move on, but you just make it so easy (“Off the rack,” by Jim Krohe, March 10).

Next thing you know, we’ll have some Harvard Law grad with a kind of high profile position talkin’ and wavin’ his hands and lyin’ and screwin’ up the country. And spendin’ a lot of time wearin’ golf clothes. Ted Harvatin Springfield
