Introducing Jen Sorensen

Illinois Times is proud to introduce a new comic to our readers.

Jen Sorensen’s political cartoons appear in numerous alt-weeklies around the country, as well as in such outlets as Daily Kos, Truthout, AlterNet, Ms Magazine, and Funny Times. She has also done work for NPR.org, Nickelodeon magazine, and MAD. In addition to drawing cartoons, Sorensen edits a comics section for the Fusion Network website.

In 2014, Sorensen was named the first woman to win the prestigious Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning. She is also the recipient of a 2013 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, a 2012 National Cartoonists Society Award, an Inkpot Award for career achievement from the San Diego Comic- Con International, and several awards from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. The New York Times has referred to her as “among our most gifted lifters of political veils and pretenses.”

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Jen currently lives in Austin, Texas.
