BAND SPOTLIGHT | Frank’s Discount Lounge Act Remember those entertainment relics called “lounge singers” who could somewhat sleazily, but mostly cheesily, easily charm the pants off a mannequin? Bill Murray famously portrayed one in the 70s on Saturday Night Live and Lord only knows how many made an honest living doing it for real in days gone by. Now Frank Trompeter, renowned jazz saxophonist and singer, becomes the one and only (thank goodness) Frank E. Rambelon, the finest lounge singer in Sangamon County. Frank sings the big Frank (as in Sinatra) songbook, covers tunes such as, “Feelings” and “More” that only a lounge singer could love and goes off the deep end with twists on Eminem, J. Geils, Robert Palmer and The Beatles. Accompanied by the jazzlounge stylings of pianist Chris Miller, Rambelon, with the added charm of saxophone playing, takes lounge to a level few experience. Opening the show is Springfield’s nationally acclaimed juggler, Troy Roark, to add that real Las Vegas touch. Catch Frank as a straight-up musician with his jazz quartet, next Friday evening at Robbie’s.
