BOOKS & AUTHORS | A Pan-African and American dialogue On Monday, Feb. 23, visit the Out of Africa Heritage Center, located at 422 E. Monroe St., for a book signing and discussion with Seenaa G-D Jimjimo. Seenaa will be signing copies of her book, The In-Between. She will also lead a discussion on the relationships, American experience and cultural divides between Africans and African-Americans, as told from Seenaa’s point of view as an African Oromo woman. The Oromo are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, with approximately 28 million people compromising Oromia, their territory in the Horn of Africa. From an early age, Seenaa felt uncomfortable with the injustices she saw surrounding Oromo-Arsi women. She has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of these women. Seenaa is currently a graduate student at the University of Illinois Springfield. She is the founder of the Danboboodu Scholarship Foundation, whose mission is to help educate women in Africa. For more information about Seenaa’s book signing and panel discussion or the Out of Africa Heritage Center, email [email protected]. See also
