FILM | Film fanatic fun

Independent films will be shown in Springfield this weekend at the 13 th annual Route 66 Film Festival. This Friday, Nov. 7, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., relax in front of the big screen for a film festival of international proportions. The Route 66 Film Festival is more than just an opportunity to view some of 2014s most exciting independent films. In fact, a key perk of this festival is that filmmakers from all over the world descend on Springfield annually to exchange ideas with colleagues and gauge audience reactions to their films. This year’s films range from 5 minutes to 1 ½ hours in length, and the 34 titles are broken up into five sessions spanning two days. A reception is to follow each evening session, and the festival will conclude on Saturday evening with an awards ceremony.
