HISTORY | Riveting reprisal This Saturday, Nov. 1, make the short trip up Interstate 55 to Elkhart for The Ultimate Betrayal: The Insanity Trial of Mary Lincoln, a unique presentation of the court proceeding which resulted in Mary Lincoln’s commitment to Bellevue Place, a private, upscale asylum located in the Fox River Valley. Springfield actress Pam Brown, who is no stranger to the role of Mrs. Lincoln, having played her in two National Geographic documentaries to date, resumes her role as the former first lady to shed insight into the trial itself, her relatively normal life inside the asylum and how the media contributed to her release. After the trial, forensic psychiatrist Terry Killian and attorney Larry Jeckel will offer professional, modern perspectives as to how modern laws would affect the 1875 conviction. To purchase tickets for either the 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. showing and/or make dinner reservations for Wild Hare Café or Talk of the Town, visit elkharthistoricalsociety.org.
