Springfield Art Association rolls out its colorful festival Paint the Street in downtown Springfield Saturday, July 26. Anyone can purchase a six-foot by six-foot square to fill with their imagination using paint. SAA supplies the washable tempera and brushes. Register to paint a block at Washington and Fifth and Washington and Sixth. Voted the Best New Event by Downtown Springfield, Inc., last year’s inaugural event saw 200 squares painted with 1000 folks participating. Located in front of the Old State Capitol, there is also music throughout the day including main stage headliners Radio Twist at 6 p.m. and James Armstrong from 8:10-10 p.m., food and a children’s tent featuring air-dry clay sculptures. Funds raised will go toward the new ceramics and glassblowing studio. The outdoor painted street gallery can be viewed the day of the event or until the paint is cleared away by the weather. This is an alcohol-free event.
