CONTEST | Student submissions

Ministerial Alliance of Springfield and Vicinity hopes to expose youngsters to the ideas of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. via an essay contest. Jan. 13 is the last day for your student or child, grade 5-12, to submit their essay to the Martin Luther King Essay Contest. One winning elementary, middle school and high school student will each be awarded $700. Winners are required to present their essay on Jan. 19 at the Ministerial Alliance Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe St. Typed essays, between 300 to 400 words, must explore Dr. King’s quote, “He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.” Delivery must be made by 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 to the church.
