She simply walked out and did what had to be done

Ann Elizabeth Sefcik Woolsey, 85, climbed over her last fence on Nov. 30, 2013. Though the climb wasn’t always easy or safe, she faced down the challenges of being an orphan, wife, mother, homemaker, working mom, grandmother and caregiver with boundless optimism and a goofy fearlessness.

Ann rushed in where others feared to tread, whether it was leaving the comfort of the familiar for places unknown, or climbing a fence to rescue Bounce, the pug, from a stamping, snorting bull. She never looked back or looked around, and she never weighed the what ifs. She simply walked out and did what had to be done while her family looked on in amazement.

Her love of fine music (Tony Bennett) great theater (Mildred Pierce, Laura), dance (Roll out the barrel), and all things good echoes gently in her three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who use pen, paint, stethoscope and guitar to create their own gypsy lore.

She joins husband, Harold Lloyd Woolsey, brothers Edward Sefcik and William Sefcik, but those of us left standing on this side of that verdant pasture are her children, Ed Woolsey, Carol and Ron Sagona, Tom “Dooley”

and Betsy Cole. Her grandchildren are Keith and Shannon Sagona, Laura and Josh Evans, Esther Woolsey, Madeleine and Seth Hoffman. Great-grandchildren are Sarah Michelle Sagona, Adam Caleb Evans, Josiah Quinn Sagona and Alexandria Elizabeth Sagona. Her extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.

A memorial commemorating her life will be held at Ellinger-Kunz and Davis at a later date, and at this time her family would like to thank the staff of Auburn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all their lovingkindness. – Carol Ann Sagona, daughter
