Springfield Theatre Centre presents six performances of an award-winning original musical written during the last five years by playwright Kari Catton and composer Scott David Smith, both of Springfield. Track Home follows 11 children riding the Orphan Train from New York to Missouri in 1910. The musical is based on Catton’s play written approximately10 years ago about an actual train that transported more than 250,000 orphaned children from the East Coast to the Midwest between1854 and 1929. Stories from those who rode the train or their descendants have been used to craft the characters and scenarios. The musical won fifth place in the 2013 Jackie White Memorial National Children’s Play Writing Contest and the play took ninth in the Writer’s Digest Play Category in 2007. Catton is also executive director at New Salem’s Theatre in the Park. See also
