NATURE | Call of the wild

Families, nature enthusiasts and bird lovers are in for a treat this Saturday, Sept. 28. Springfield Audubon Society is hosting an open house at Adams Wildlife Sanctuary, a nature center owned by the Illinois Audubon Society in the heart of the capital city. The free family event includes refreshments, tours of the Adams house (with history of the home and its occupants), children’s nature activities, bird identification walks, silent auction and nature boutique with gently used books, jewelry, scarves, calendars and bird watching, hiking and garden items for sale. Donations were received from individuals, Wild Birds Unlimited and IAS. Also, for a small donation, Springfield Audubon Society will wash your bird feeder. This is a great day to trek out just northeast of downtown to learn about the 40-acre sanctuary and to learn more about and show your support for the Springfield Audubon Society.
