Editor’s note

Around the country, around the world, small groups are gathering this week in observance of the International Day of Prayer for Peace. The Grassroots Interfaith Team sponsored one such gathering in Enos Park Sept. 18. One participant read “Gandhi’s Prayer for Peace”: “I offer you peace. I offer you love. I offer you friendship. I see your beauty. I hear your need. I feel your feelings. My wisdom flows from the highest source. I salute that source in you. Let us work together. For unity and peace.” •With this issue, we introduce a new monthly travel column featuring weekend getaways to destinations throughout the Midwest, written by veteran journalists Mary Bohlen and Mary Galligan. The first entry is a visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin in Spring Green, Wis. See page 30. •There’s about 10 days left to make your voice heard in the 2013 Best of Springfield reader poll. Nearly 6,000 have already registered to vote online at www.illinoistimes.com. For those who prefer a paper ballot, it’s on pages 25-28. And you can vote from your phone by downloading the free Best of Springfield app from iTunes. Deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Vote now. – Fletcher Farrar, editor and publisher
