GOLF FOR GOOD

Anyone who has driven a motorcycle knows how dangerous it can be to take a corner too fast. That danger is compounded when you’re slowing down from 130 mph with a dozen other riders just feet away. Cornering is just one hazard of fl at track motorcycle racing, and it’s not uncommon for riders to get badly injured. That’s why a group of motorcycle racers calling themselves the Class of ’79 took up a different sport: golf. Last year, they organized the Class of ’79 and Friends Charity Golf Classic at Piper Glen Golf Course in Springfi eld to raise money for injured riders. They’re doing it again this year on Aug. 30. Entries are $150 per player, which includes a VIP pass to the Springfi eld Mile After Party, a big shindig to celebrate the legendary annual motorcycle race at the Illinois State Fair Grounds. Proceeds from the golf outing benefi t the national nonprofi t group Aid for Injured Riders. For more info or to register, contact Charlie Roberts at 899-1811.
