BAND SPOTLIGHT | Anni Piper

Australia’s First Lady of the Blues rolls into town, rocking the house with her raw and raucous, right on, down and dirty, down under playing of the blues. Anni started on guitar at age 12, but switched to bass at 14 and started singing the blues. In 2004, she released Jailbait, her first recording of original music, and was promptly proclaimed Best New Talent at the 2005 Australian Blues Music Awards. While continually touring Australia she produced more records including Texas Hold ’Em (2007), Chasin’ Tail (2010 Blues Leaf) and in 2013, Split Second, along with Two’s Company, a compilation from her earlier Australian releases. Anni’s recent U.S. tour started in Florida, spent a week in Oklahoma, and now hits the Midwest for shows at Knuckleheads in Kansas City, the Alamo here and House of Blues in Chicago, before taking off east and ending up with several shows in Canada.
