FOOD | Getting fresh

Old Capitol Farmers Market presented by St.

John’s Hospital and Downtown Springfield, Inc. opens for the season Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. Frank Trompeter Quartet will play, Ashley Glatz of RealCuisine Catering and Café will present a celebrity chef demonstration, and free cake by Incredibly Delicious will be served. With nearly three blocks of vendors, the market is the place to get fresh locally produced goods every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Oct. 16. Each third Saturday of the month, the market fills with artisans, chef demos and live music. Fresh produce fans also won’t want to miss the Illinois Products Farmers Market in the Illinois State Fairgrounds Commodities Pavilion every Thursday, 4-7 p.m., through Oct. 17 (except Aug. 8 and 15).
