FARM-FRESH FOOD

CAP CITY

It’s spring in the fi elds, and for Springfi eld, that means it’s farmers market time! The Old Capitol Farmers Market opens next week with a variety of food, goods, and festivities. To start the market off right this year, Downtown Springfi eld, Inc. plans to have live music, a cooking demonstration, and free cake. The live music and cooking demonstrations will continue throughout the market’s run, which typically lasts until mid- October. LINK, debit and credit card users can purchase “Market Tokens” on-site to use like cash, and LINK users can even get “Double Value” tokens that double their money, thanks to a grant from LINK UP Illinois. The market opens at 8 a.m. on May 15 on Adams Street downtown between Fifth and Second streets, though the offi cial ribbon-cutting happens at 10 a.m. The Farmers Market typically runs Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Starting on May 18, local art will be sold on Saturdays at the market.
