MUSIC | Punk-rock spirit

WUIS Bedrock 66 Series rolls in another winning musical act at the Hoogland Center for the Arts on Feb. 9. Paul Collins Beat features Paul Collins, who got his start in The Nerves whose claim to fame includes touring with The Ramones and having their song “Hanging on the Telephone” become a Blondie hit. Collins formed The Beat in 1979, recruiting various rock band members including Steven Huff, Larry Whitman and Michael Ruiz. The Beat toured extensively with top acts such as The Jam, Pere Ubu, The Police, Eddie Money, The Plimsouls and Huey Lewis. The Beat became Paul Collins Beat when a ska band began using The Beat as their moniker. Also on stage, Illinois punk-pop-rock bands The Gilligans and The Black Roses.
