BAND SPOTLIGHT | Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers

Son of the legendary accordion player and Zydeco master Rockin’ Dopsie, Sr., Dwayne “Dopsie” Rubin comes into his heritage honestly and avidly. Always a party when he comes to town with the New Orleans and swampy Louisiana sound, this Saturday’s show infuses the excitement of Carnival and the upcoming Mardi Gras celebrations to make for a special night in Springfield. Known for his respect of traditional sounds, this singer-songwriter and accordionist is not afraid to branch out into other genres, infusing blues, funk, rock, pop and reggae into “his own high energy style that defies existing stereotypes and blazes a refreshingly distinct path for 21st century Zydeco music.” A native of Lafayette, La. , as are several of his band members, Dwayne and the Zydeco Hellraisers are ranked number 29 on a list of 100 Reasons to Visit Louisiana. Sponsored by local businesses Meatsmack, Rolling Meadows Brewery and State House Inn, the night promises to be a Mardi Gras experience to remember for 2013.
