Sharon Cole of Springfield, whose husband, Billy Sprinkle, is a resident of Logan Correctional Center at Lincoln, called Wednesday to report that the dead raccoon in the attic of Nine House center-wing, discovered nearly a week ago, is still there. “The damn thing is still up there, with maggots coming down the wall,” Cole tells us, relaying information from her husband that the smell is affecting guards as well as inmates. Apparently the news that the hapless raccoon had tangled himself in electrical wires in the attic came just as the maintenance staff was leaving for the Memorial Day weekend, and “they don’t have time to do anything about it,” says Cole. “The inmates are there because they did something wrong,” she says, “but they shouldn’t have to put up with this. This is ridiculous.”
