BAND SPOTLIGHT | Ben Samples aka SAMPLES

Killinoize Productions of Springfield and Subsequent Vibes of Bloomington began a music series at Bar None several months ago and the success of the venture points to the growing popularity of electronic dance music in the capital city. The DJs, or more aptly, correctly and popularly called producers, mix on the fly, making impromptu live music without traditional instruments, but certainly creative music nonetheless. Ben Samples, a cutting-edge producer/DJ out of Denver, Colo., who simply goes by SAMPLES on stage, headlines this month with other performing producers MonDope (Springfield), Ghost Science (Quad Cities), Durt Russell (Bloomington), Blastfome (Bloomington), Trinketz (Peoria), and DJ KT (Springfield) filling out the bill. The event features “new genres of electronic music such as Glitch-Hop, Dubstep, Drumstep, Electro-House, Moombahton, Purple, Crunk, anything with BASS” and the hosts beef up the house ambience with extra speakers and lights.
