This Nashville-based band comes on with feet and fingers, music and minds in several generations. Members of the Farewell Drifters, born in the 80s and 90s, reach into the past for inspiration, conjuring up modern sensibilities within the timeless folk, bluegrass and country idiom. Among a crop of young folks playing old music a new way, they bear resemblance to Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists and Grizzly Bear, while forging a definite individual sound. In 2011 the band released its third album, Echo Boom (Thirty Tigers), debuting in the Top Ten on the Billboard Bluegrass charts and receiving generous critical acclaim. Along with making the fine record, the busy band toured nationally, with showcases at Folk Alliance, International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass, and Americana Music Association’s Festival and sold out the album release party at Nashville’s esteemed Station Inn. The Farewell Drifters proved to be neither at this point: They aren’t saying goodbye anytime soon and are most certainly on a steady path to success.
