The Illinois State Museum is partnering with the National Park Service for National Fossil Day on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in hopes of raising awareness of the scientific and educational value of fossils. Dr. Jeff Saunders will answer questions on fossils in the Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum from 10 a.m. to noon. Visitors can create fossil rubbings and get a bookmark. Docents will also answer questions in the Changes exhibit where a large collection of fossils are housed. For resources and info on fossils and this national event, visit nature.nps.gov/geology/nationalfossilday. Kids ages 4-8 also might enjoy the museum’s Super Saturday on Oct. 8. Wildlife Prairie Park naturalists will present a live owl program at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and other activities are planned.
