Wow, what a chance to see two modern legends of country and Americana songwriting under one roof. Ed Becker, Mount Olive resident and longtime program host on KDHX, the community radio station in St. Louis, befriended Tom Russell many years ago and whenever possible brings this amazing songwriter to town. Russell just released Mesabi, his 29th full-length recording, has made five appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman” and had songs covered by Johnny Cash and Nanci Griffith, among many others. He is considered one of the greats of his time in weaving a story into a song with power and integrity. Gretchen Peters wrote the monster hit “Independence Day” made famous by Martina McBride and the number one smash, “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am” for Patty Loveless, just to name a couple of her huge successes. Artists covering her songs include, Etta James, Neil Diamond, Bryan Adams, George Strait, Don Henley and the Neville Brothers, just for an idea of her range in popular music. Should be amazing.
